Build customer lists that count people, not profiles

Audiences in MergeGuard for Shopify count each person once, even when their orders sit on several profiles. Ready lists cover newsletters, win-back, VIPs and subscribers who may cancel. The preview shows each rule change before you save. You can sync a list to Klaviyo or export a CSV. MergeGuard never messages your customers, and Audiences never unsubscribe or delete anyone.

Demo store (Northsail Supply)

Amelia Hughes is one person

  • AProfile Aamelia.hughes@gmail.com4 orders
  • BProfile Bameliahughes@gmail.com3 orders
  • CProfile Camelia.hughes+sale@gmail.com2 orders

Counted once in every audience

  • NewsletterFrom Starter

1,012 subscribed contacts are 926 people, so 86 would get the newsletter twice.

  • VIPFrom Growth

18 VIPs on single profiles are 27 VIPs as people.

  • Win-backFrom Scale

905 look like they stopped ordering. 842 really did, and 63 still buy under another profile.

  • SubscriptionFrom Scale

38 of 412 subscribers have a second account, and 21 of them show signs they may cancel.

One customer with three profiles counts once, and every audience is built on that count. The numbers are the demo store’s.

One shopper, three profiles, three different answers

When one person has two or three profiles, every list you build from Shopify counts them two or three times. A regular who now orders under a new email looks like someone who stopped ordering. A VIP’s spend is split below your threshold. A subscriber gets the same newsletter twice. Audiences count each person once, then build the lists on top of that count.

Shopify’s count and MergeGuard’s count of the same demo store, audience by audience. Each card shows its own audience’s totals once people are counted: the VIP total rises as spend adds up, and the subscriber figure is a subset.

How it works

  1. MergeGuard counts people

Profiles that belong to one person count once in every audience, including customers split across protected profiles.

  2. Pick a ready list

Choose from newsletter cleanup, win-back (customers who haven’t ordered in a while), VIP and Subscription (subscribers who may cancel). Each audience comes with its own lists.

  3. Adjust the rules

Change a rule, such as your VIP spend threshold or when a customer counts as stopped, and the live preview shows how the list changes before you save. Each rule shows how many lists use it.

  4. Use the list

Sync it to Klaviyo, with Keep in sync on Scale, or export a CSV for any other tool.

The four audiences

  • Newsletter cleanup finds subscribed contacts that belong to the same person.
  • Win-back separates customers who really stopped ordering from those still buying under another profile.
  • VIP adds up spend across profiles, so split customers reach your threshold.
  • Subscribers who may cancel reads each subscriber’s orders across all their profiles and lists the signs they may cancel. It is included on Scale.

To plan an offer, lists for your next offer finds customers by how they buy, from Close to VIP to Buys in bulk. To send any list to your email platform, see MergeGuard and Klaviyo.

What you control

Audience rules
For VIPs: the spend threshold, the period spend is counted over, and whether refunds are subtracted. For win-back: when a customer counts as stopped (their usual gap by default, or 90, 180 or 365 days) and how many days to wait after that. How many orders make a customer a regular, for the discount list. For subscriptions: how far back to look, and the grace period.
Klaviyo sync
On a monthly plan, Growth includes 15 manual syncs a month and Scale 30. A yearly plan gets the year’s syncs at the start of the year: 180 on Growth and unlimited on Scale. Scale on a monthly plan keeps up to 20 lists in sync, and Scale on a yearly plan or Enterprise keeps unlimited lists in sync. Connecting Klaviyo never starts a sync on its own.
CSV export
On a monthly plan, Starter includes 10 list exports a month, Growth 30 and Scale 50. A yearly plan gets the year’s exports at the start of the year: 120 on Starter, 360 on Growth and unlimited on Scale. Enterprise exports are unlimited. Duplicates and History exports don’t count.

What it never does

  • MergeGuard never messages your customers.
  • Audiences never unsubscribe or delete anyone, and syncing never changes consent.
  • Connecting Klaviyo never auto-syncs.

What can be undone

Audiences never unsubscribe or delete anyone, and syncing never changes consent. You can change the rules the settings offer, and the preview shows how the list changes before you save.

Merges
Permanent.Shopify merges can’t be undone. MergeGuard keeps a snapshot.
Contact fixes
Can be undone once. The undo is its own record and uses 1 fix.

Questions merchants ask

Which audiences come with each plan?

Starter includes Newsletter. Growth adds VIP. Scale includes Newsletter, VIP, Win-back and Subscription, and Enterprise includes everything in Scale, or more. On a plan without an audience, you still see its counts.

Do I need Klaviyo to use Audiences?

No. You can export any list as a CSV. Klaviyo sync is included on Growth, Scale and Enterprise, and Scale and Enterprise can keep lists in sync.

Will syncing a list change who is subscribed?

No. Audiences never unsubscribe or delete anyone, and syncing never changes consent.

What does the Subscription audience show?

The signs that a subscriber may cancel, such as buying their subscription product separately or skipping and delaying deliveries, read across all of a subscriber’s profiles. Other lists cover details that are out of date, subscribers who stopped and still buy, and customers ready to buy more. It’s included on Scale.
