Fix mistyped customer emails and flag throwaway ones
Contact fixes in MergeGuard for Shopify find mistyped email domains and suggest a correction. Throwaway addresses are flagged and never changed. Check the suggestions first, or fix the clear typos after a confirmation that shows the count, and undo a fix once. A fix doesn’t change the subscription. On Scale and Enterprise, typos can be fixed automatically.

The receipt went to an address that doesn’t exist
A customer mistypes the domain of their email at checkout and still gets their order. Your receipts and newsletters go to an address that doesn’t exist, so a subscriber you pay to reach stays out of reach. If that profile later merges with another, the mistyped email could be the one that’s kept. Contact fixes suggest the correction and you approve it.

How it works
MergeGuard flags emails that look wrong
It finds mistyped emails and suggests a correction for each one. When the corrected address already belongs to another customer, MergeGuard offers no fix: the row goes under Matches another customer, with the action Merge in Duplicates. Throwaway emails are flagged too, and MergeGuard never changes them.
Review the suggestions
Choose Check them first to go through the typos, or fix every clear typo at once.
Confirm before anything changes
The confirmation shows how many emails will change and how many fixes they use. You can undo any fix in History.
Apply and see the result
MergeGuard shows how many emails were fixed and how many subscribers are now reachable. Each fix is saved in History.
Fix contacts before you merge
When you review a duplicate group, you choose which email the merged customer keeps. Fixing mistyped emails first means the right address is there to choose. Start with contact fixes, then review your duplicate groups. Every fix and every merge shows up in History.

Questions merchants ask
How many contact fixes do I get?
Free includes 5 fixes, once per store. Starter includes 30 a month, Growth 60 and Scale 100, and yearly plans get the whole year’s fixes at the start. Undoing a fix also uses 1 fix.
Does fixing an email change the customer’s marketing subscription?
No. A contact fix doesn’t change the customer’s subscription. It stays as it was.
Can contact fixes run automatically?
Yes, on Scale and Enterprise, and only for domain typos. Throwaway emails and anything else wait for your review.
Can I undo a contact fix?
Yes, once. Open the fix in History and undo it. The undo is recorded separately and uses 1 fix.
What if the corrected email is already in use?
MergeGuard offers no fix for it. The row goes under Matches another customer, with the action Merge in Duplicates, so you can merge the two customers there.
