Timeline

  1. A merge was queued.
  2. Shopify merge started.
  3. Shopify accepted the merge.
  4. Shopify verified the merged customer.

Verified means Shopify checked the merged customer after the merge. The decision to merge stays with you, or with the automatic merging settings you switched on.

Permanent. Shopify merges can’t be undone. MergeGuard keeps a snapshot. History records the merge. It doesn’t reverse it.

One merge record from the demo store, opened. Each part is something you can check later: the customers involved, what was kept, and what Shopify verified.

Weeks later, someone asks how two customers became one

A teammate wonders why an order history moved. A customer asks where their old email went. Shopify merges are permanent, so the answer has to come from a record made at the time. History keeps that record: a snapshot of each profile, what was kept, who ran the merge and when, and what Shopify verified.

How it works

  1. Every change is recorded

Merges, contact fixes and groups marked not a duplicate all go into History. Search History by customer name, email or ID, and filter by What happened, Who did it, Result, and a From and To date.

  2. Shopify verifies each merge

After a merge, MergeGuard waits for Shopify to verify the result. The record then shows Verified with the time, and its timeline reads “Shopify verified the merged customer.”

  3. Open a record

The detail sheet shows the customer kept and each customer merged away, the details kept, Shopify’s verification and a snapshot of each customer.

  4. Act on what can change

Undo a contact fix once, or restore a group marked not a duplicate to your list. Merges stay as they are, and the record says so.

What can and can’t be undone

Action Can it be undone?
Merge No. Shopify merges are permanent. MergeGuard keeps a snapshot of each merged customer.
Contact fix Yes, once. The undo is its own record and uses 1 fix.
Marked not a duplicate Yes. Restore it to your list. Restoring doesn’t undo a merge.

Every merge ends with Shopify’s verification. Read how MergeGuard keeps merges safe and how it works for every step from a match to the History record.

What it never does

  • History records every change. It does not reverse a merge.
  • Restoring a group marked not a duplicate doesn’t undo a merge.
  • MergeGuard never messages your customers. Digests and alerts go only to your team.

Questions merchants ask

Can I undo a merge from History?

No. Shopify merges are permanent. History shows exactly what happened, and the snapshot shows each customer as MergeGuard recorded them, but neither restores the old profiles.

What does Verified by Shopify mean?

After a merge is sent, MergeGuard waits for Shopify to verify the result. Once Shopify has, the record shows Verified and the time. Verified means Shopify checked the merged customer after the merge. The decision to merge stays with you, or with the automatic merging settings you switched on.

What does a History record include?

The customer kept and each customer merged away, the details kept, Shopify’s verification, the Klaviyo outcome and a snapshot of each customer.

How often does the digest arrive?

It depends on your plan. Free gets a short monthly digest, Starter a monthly one and Growth a weekly one. On Scale you choose.

What can be undone?

A contact fix, once, and the undo uses 1 fix. A group marked not a duplicate can be restored to your list. Merges can’t be undone.
