Cookie policy

This policy covers mergeguard.store, the website for MergeGuard for Shopify, run by Caelena Software Labs. It lists everything the site stores in your browser or loads from another company. The MergeGuard app inside Shopify admin is covered by our privacy policy.
Analytics on every visit
The site runs PostHog analytics on every page. PostHog stores a random ID in a cookie and in your browser’s storage so it can count visits and tell a returning visitor from a new one. It never learns your name or email address.
What the site stores or loads
In the names below, <project token> is our PostHog project’s public key.
| Name | What it does | How long it lasts | Category |
|---|---|---|---|
ph_<project token>_posthog (cookie) |
Holds a random visitor ID, the current visit’s ID, and the first page and referring site you arrived from, each without its query string or fragment (the parts of the address after ? or #) | 365 days, renewed on each visit | Analytics |
ph_<project token>_posthog (local storage) |
Holds the same IDs, plus the address of the page your current visit started on. That address stays in your browser: what PostHog receives has its query string and fragment removed | Until you clear this site’s data in your browser | Analytics |
ph_<project token>_posthog, ph_<project token>_window_id, ph_<project token>_primary_window_exists, ph_<project token>_session_registered_properties (session storage) |
Hold the current visit’s campaign tags (such as utm_source) and referring site, and tell your open tabs apart |
Until you close the tab | Analytics |
mg-site:try-merge:v1 (local storage) |
Holds your decisions in the Try a merge demo (which demo group, what you decided or that you left a protected group alone, when, and the details or reason you picked) so the demo can show them again. It stays in your browser. Only the group and your decision are sent, as an analytics action, when you decide, and the number of groups merged, kept apart and protected when you finish them all | Until you clear this site’s data in your browser, or choose Start again in the demo | Site feature, set only when you decide a group in the demo |
| Sentry error monitoring | Sends us a report when a page breaks: the error, your browser type and the page address with any query string or fragment removed. Stores nothing in your browser | Nothing stored on your device | Strictly necessary |
| YouTube video player | Plays a video when you click it. Nothing loads from YouTube until you click play | Set by YouTube after you click play | Third party, loads only on your click |
What analytics records
PostHog records each page you view, when you leave it, and how fast the page loaded and responded (Core Web Vitals). It also records twelve actions: clicks on Install free, switching between monthly and yearly prices, opening an FAQ answer, finishing the self-check quiz at the end of a Knowledge guide, deciding a group in the Try a merge demo, switching a setting on the automatic-merging demo card, approving or undoing the demo contact fix, replaying the hero example, clicking an outcome tile in the hero, choosing a goal in the Home goal explorer, switching the win-back demo between profiles and people, and finishing all groups in the Try a merge demo. For demo decisions and settings it records which demo group or setting and what you chose; for the contact fix it records whether you approved or undid it. For a completed demo it records how many groups were merged, kept apart or protected; for a tile or a goal it records which goal; for the count switch it records the goal and whether you chose profiles or people. Replaying the hero sends no extra details. For the quiz it records which guide and which result band, never your answers. These examples are simulated and change nothing in a store.
Each record holds the page path and title, your browser and operating system, device type, screen size, language and time zone, and the campaign tags in the link you followed, such as utm_source. We remove the query string and fragment from every page address and referrer before a record leaves your browser, and we drop advertising click IDs such as gclid and fbclid.
PostHog’s automatic click capture, heatmaps, session recording, error capture and surveys are switched off. We never tell PostHog who you are. PostHog requests go through our own address, mergeguard.store/relay, and PostHog stores the data in the United States.
YouTube
Videos on the site show a preview image first. When you click play, the player loads from YouTube, and YouTube may set its own cookies. YouTube’s own privacy policy applies to what it collects.
Block or remove analytics storage
You can block cookies and site data for mergeguard.store in your browser settings, or use a content blocker. The site works the same without analytics storage. To remove what is already stored, clear this site’s data in your browser.
