Find the customers for your next offer
MergeGuard for Shopify builds lists of customers by how they buy, so you know who an offer is for: Close to VIP, Uses discounts on several profiles, Buys on sale every time and Buys in bulk. You write the offer and send it. MergeGuard never messages your customers. Close to VIP starts on Growth, the rest on Scale.

Close to VIPFrom Growth
Spent the VIP amount less the margin to the VIP amount. Tell them how close they are.
The margin is the Close to VIP margin beside the VIP rule. Until you save one it is 10% of the VIP amount and follows the amount. You can pick 5%, 10% or 20%, or type an amount below the VIP amount.
Uses discounts on several profilesFrom Scale
Regular customers who used discounts on two or more profiles.
Discounts used on two or more of their profiles, at least the minimum number of orders you set (3 by default, 2 or more allowed), and an order in the last 12 months.
Buys on sale every timeFrom Scale
Every order had a discount or a marked-down price.
At least 2 orders, and every one of them was on sale.
Buys in bulkFrom Scale
Their orders hold at least twice as many items as your average.
At least 2 orders, with at least twice your store’s average number of items per order.
MergeGuardBuilds the list
From how customers buy, counted as people.

You have an offer. Who is it for?
You are planning a bulk deal, a thank-you for your best customers, or a sale for people who only ever buy on sale. The hard part is the list. A customer’s orders and discounts are spread across profiles, so each profile alone looks small and the same buyer can look like three different people. MergeGuard counts each person once, then builds lists from how they buy. You choose the offer and send it yourself.
Worked example (made up)
- Profile 1: orders with a code
- 2 of 2
- Profile 2: orders with a code
- 1 of 3
- Counted as one person
- 3 of 5
How it works
MergeGuard counts people
Orders, spend and discounts from all of a customer’s profiles count together before any list is built.
Pick the list that fits the offer
Close to VIP finds customers a little under your VIP amount. The How they shop group has Uses discounts on several profiles, Buys on sale every time and Buys in bulk.
See why a customer is on a list
Each customer on a How they shop list shows the reason, such as how many of their orders were on sale.
Take the list out, then write the offer
Sync the list to Klaviyo or export a CSV. You write and send the offer. MergeGuard never messages your customers.
Close to VIP
Close to VIP lists people who spent from your VIP amount less a margin up to the VIP amount, counted the way your VIP rule counts spend, and who ordered in the last 12 months. If your VIP rule asks for a minimum number of orders, they have that many too. Read how to set a VIP threshold first, and how VIP lists work for the rule itself.
How they shop
These lists belong to the Win-back collection and sit under the heading How they shop. Each one describes how customers have bought so far. For the business side of discount buyers, read who should not get a win-back discount.
What you control
- Margin
- How close counts for Close to VIP. Until you save one it is 10% of the VIP amount. You can pick 5%, 10% or 20%, or type an amount below the VIP amount.
- Minimum orders
- Uses discounts on several profiles needs at least the number of orders you set. The default is 3, and 2 or more is allowed.
- Klaviyo sync
- On a monthly plan, Growth includes 15 manual syncs a month and Scale 30. A yearly plan gets the year’s syncs at the start of the year: 180 on Growth and unlimited on Scale. Scale on a monthly plan keeps up to 20 lists in sync, and Scale on a yearly plan or Enterprise keeps unlimited lists in sync. Connecting Klaviyo never starts a sync on its own.
- CSV export
- On a monthly plan, Starter includes 10 list exports a month, Growth 30 and Scale 50. A yearly plan gets the year’s exports at the start of the year: 120 on Starter, 360 on Growth and unlimited on Scale. Duplicates and History exports don’t count.
What it never does
- MergeGuard never messages your customers.
- Audiences never unsubscribe or delete anyone, and syncing never changes consent.
- Connecting Klaviyo never auto-syncs.
What can be undone
These lists never unsubscribe or delete anyone. Close to VIP follows your VIP rule and its margin, and Uses discounts on several profiles has a minimum orders setting. Buys on sale every time and Buys in bulk have fixed rules. The preview shows how a list changes before you save a rule.
- Merges
- Permanent.Shopify merges can’t be undone. MergeGuard keeps a snapshot.
- Contact fixes
- Can be undone once. The undo is its own record and uses 1 fix.

Questions merchants ask
Which plans include these lists?
Close to VIP is a VIP list and starts on Growth. The How they shop lists, Uses discounts on several profiles, Buys on sale every time and Buys in bulk, start on Scale. On a plan without a list you still see its count.
Does MergeGuard choose the offer or the products?
No. MergeGuard finds the customers by how they buy. You decide what to offer, write it and send it from your email tool.
What puts someone on Buys on sale every time?
At least 2 orders, and every one of them was on sale. Every order had a discount or a marked-down price.
What puts someone on Buys in bulk?
At least 2 orders, with at least twice your store’s average number of items per order.
Does a discount used on several profiles mean someone is cheating?
Not on its own. Family members, gifts and shared addresses are ordinary reasons for the same details to appear on more than one profile. Treat the Uses discounts on several profiles list as customers to review.
