Build a Shopify VIP customers list that counts every profile
The VIP audience in MergeGuard for Shopify builds your VIP customers list by adding up a customer’s spend across all their profiles, so VIPs split between profiles reach your threshold. You set the threshold, the spend window and whether refunds are subtracted, and the preview shows the result before you save. VIP is included on Growth, Scale and Enterprise.

- VIPs found across profiles
- VIPs on profiles Shopify can’t merge
- Close to VIP
- VIPs slipping
- Former VIPs gone cold
Close to VIP finds customers a little under your VIP amount who ordered in the last 12 months, so you can tell them how close they are.
Your best customer might look like three ordinary ones
When a regular’s orders sit on two or three profiles, each profile shows only a slice of what they spend. None reaches your VIP threshold, so the customer misses the perks you set up for your best people. The VIP audience adds the profiles together, then lists everyone who crosses the line.

How it works
MergeGuard counts people
Spend from all of a customer’s profiles adds up, including profiles Shopify won’t merge.
Set your VIP rule
Choose the spend threshold, the spend window (the period spend is counted over) and whether refunds are subtracted. The live preview shows how many VIPs you have before you save.
Pick a list
Lists include VIP customers, VIPs found across profiles, VIPs on profiles Shopify can’t merge, Close to VIP, VIPs slipping and Former VIPs gone cold.
Use the list
Sync it to Klaviyo on Growth, Scale or Enterprise, or export a CSV.
VIPs Shopify can’t merge
Some of your best customers have profiles that Shopify won’t merge, for example because one profile once had a subscription contract. The VIPs on profiles Shopify can’t merge list counts their spend together anyway, without merging anything. Read more about protected profiles and the rules Shopify applies to merges.
What you control
- Threshold
- How much a customer has to spend to count as a VIP.
- Spend window
- All time, which also asks for an order in the last 12 months, or the Last 12 months.
- Refunds
- Subtract refunds, where refunded money does not count toward VIP, or Include refunds, where spend counts before refunds.
- Minimum orders
- How many orders a customer needs as well as the spend.
What it never does
- MergeGuard never messages your customers.
- Audiences never unsubscribe or delete anyone, and syncing never changes consent.
- Counting protected profiles as one person never touches their subscription.
What can be undone
The VIP audience never unsubscribes or deletes anyone. You can edit its rule at any time, and the preview shows how the list changes before you save.
- Merges
- Permanent.Shopify merges can’t be undone. MergeGuard keeps a snapshot.
- Contact fixes
- Can be undone once. The undo is its own record and uses 1 fix.

Questions merchants ask
Which plans include the VIP audience?
Growth, Scale and Enterprise. On Starter you see the VIP counts, but the lists come with Growth.
Are VIPs on protected profiles included?
Yes. Their spend counts across profiles even when Shopify won’t merge them, and they have their own list. Their subscription isn’t touched.
Are refunds subtracted from VIP spend?
You decide. The VIP rule offers Subtract refunds, where refunded money does not count toward VIP, and Include refunds, where spend counts before refunds. The preview shows how the list changes before you save.
What is the Close to VIP list?
Customers who are near your VIP threshold but haven’t reached it yet.
Can I send VIP lists to Klaviyo?
Yes. On a monthly plan, Growth includes 15 manual syncs a month and Scale 30. A yearly plan gets the year’s syncs at the start of the year: 180 on Growth and unlimited on Scale. Scale on a monthly plan keeps up to 20 lists in sync, and Scale on a yearly plan or Enterprise keeps unlimited lists in sync.
