Protected profile
A customer profile that Shopify won’t merge, for example because it has ever had a subscription contract or has a store credit account. MergeGuard never merges protected profiles automatically.

Shopify lists nine situations that block a merge. Examples from its Help Center: “Either of the customer profiles has, or has ever had, a subscription contract,” and “Either of the customer profiles has a store credit account.” No app can get around these rules, because Shopify enforces them. The full list is on why Shopify blocks some merges.
MergeGuard for Shopify marks these groups as protected and explains which rule applies. Help explains what to do with a Protected group. Read more on protected profiles.
