Customer merge
Combining customer profiles into one, so all of one person’s orders, addresses, notes and tags sit on a single customer. Shopify merges two at a time, and a merge is permanent.

Shopify’s own merge works on two profiles at a time. Its Help Center says: “To merge more than 2 customers together, repeat the procedure for each additional profile.” Orders, draft orders, addresses, notes, tags, gift cards and discounts are among the data it combines. It also says: “After the profiles are merged, you can’t reverse the process.” The customer isn’t told.
Marketing status carries over in one direction. Shopify’s wording: “If the customer is subscribed to email and SMS text marketing in one profile, but not in the other, then the merged profile is subscribed.” A wrong merge can therefore subscribe someone who never agreed, which is why each merge deserves a look at the evidence first.
MergeGuard for Shopify merges a whole duplicate group into one customer with a single confirmation. Nothing merges until you confirm, or until you switch on automatic merging for strong matches or groups that need your judgment. Every merge is saved in History, and MergeGuard keeps a snapshot of each merged customer. See what happens when you merge customers for the full list.
