Kept profile
The customer profile that remains after a merge. Orders from the other profiles show under it, and it keeps the email, phone and address you choose.

Choosing the kept profile matters because its details are what your store and your apps see afterwards. Merchants have reported a merge where the mistyped email won and had to be corrected by hand. Shopify lets you review and select the merged profile’s information before you confirm.
Shopify’s own rule follows the email that is kept: if only one profile has an email, that one stays; if both have emails, the profile tied to the kept email stays; if neither has one, the profile you selected stays. Which profile Shopify keeps walks through it.
MergeGuard for Shopify recommends a profile to keep, and in the review you can still pick each field, such as which email or address the merged customer keeps, before you confirm. Help explains the merge rule setting.
