Can I undo a customer merge?
No. A Shopify customer merge is permanent and can’t be undone, and MergeGuard keeps a snapshot of each merged customer. History and the snapshot show what each profile held before the merge, but neither splits the customer again. A contact fix can be undone once. If a merge looks wrong, read its History record and contact support.

Check which action happened
A customer merge is permanent. A contact fix can be undone once, and a group marked Not a duplicate can be restored to your list.
Read the merge in History
History shows the customer kept, a snapshot of each customer merged away, the details kept and Shopify’s verification.
Use the record to check what changed
The History record and snapshot are records. They don’t split the merged customer into separate profiles.
Contact support when something looks wrong
Send support the History details and explain what you expected to see.
A merge stays merged
A Shopify customer merge is permanent and can’t be undone, and MergeGuard keeps a snapshot of each merged customer. Shopify carries out the merge, and its own help page says that after profiles merge, the process cannot be reversed.
MergeGuard keeps two records:
- History shows the customer kept, the customers merged away, the details kept, a timeline and Shopify’s verification.
- A snapshot records what each merged customer held before the merge.
Both help you check what changed. They are records and do not recreate the separate profiles.
What you can do next
Open the merge in History and compare each customer’s snapshot with the details kept. If the record does not match what you expected, write to support@mergeguard.store with the History details.
Before another merge, use the safe merge checklist. Check the name, email, phone and address evidence, the profile MergeGuard recommends keeping, and Shopify’s blockers before you confirm.
Actions that work differently
| Action | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Customer merge | Permanent. Shopify merges can’t be undone. MergeGuard keeps a snapshot. |
| Contact fix | Can be undone once. The undo is its own record and uses 1 fix. |
| Marked Not a duplicate | A group marked not a duplicate can be restored to your list. Restoring doesn’t undo a merge. |
| Klaviyo profile merge | Klaviyo profile merges can’t be undone. |
For a contact fix, follow Undo a contact fix. Restoring a group marked Not a duplicate puts the group back in your list and does not undo a merge.
